Red Fort, Delhi, Delhi
The Red Fort is closed on Mondays. An Old Delhi day built around it falls flat if Monday is the only free day in a short trip.
The lesson
Put the Red Fort on a different day and use Monday for places that stay open.
Rajiv Chowk Metro, Delhi, Delhi
The Delhi Metro is usually the quickest way across the city. At office rush hours interchange stations get very crowded, which is hard work with a suitcase.
The lesson
Travel with big bags outside peak hours, or take a cab for that leg.
India Gate, Delhi, Delhi
Smog often settles over Delhi in late autumn and early winter. On bad days, long outdoor walking tours can be unpleasant, especially for children, older travellers and anyone with asthma.
The lesson
Keep indoor options in the plan and check air-quality readings each morning.
