Taj Mahal, Agra, Uttar Pradesh
The Taj is closed to general visitors every Friday for prayers. A weekend trip from Delhi that arrives Thursday night and plans the Taj for Friday morning loses its main event.
The lesson
Check the day of the week before you fix the Agra dates.
Fatehpur Sikri, Agra, Uttar Pradesh
Fatehpur Sikri is often squeezed in on the way to or from Agra, but the palace complex and the mosque are large and spread out. In an hour you see the gate and little else.
The lesson
Give it at least half a day, ideally in the morning.
